US President Barrack Obama to visit Filipino soldiers in Fort Bonifacio Taguig City

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino military soldiers will have a chance to meet the most powerful man in the world, the United States President Barack Obama, in the flesh.

A media advisory from the US Embassy in Manila said that Barack Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City on Tuesday morning, April 29th. The event aims to recognize the “longstanding partnership and cooperation” between the United States of America and Philippine military.

Full details regarding the aforementioned event will be announced at a later time.

US leader Obama is on a four-nation tour in Asia and the Philippines is his last stop. He will arrive on April 28th, Monday, right after his tour in Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.

Speculations say that Barrack Obama is expected to announce the details of bi-lateral agreement of United States and the Philippines during the visit.

The Philippines has been working with most powerful country for the beefed up security and military defense agreement amid elevating tensions against China over the contested West Philippine (South China Sea). The deal would allow American assets the most extensive access to bases and at the same time help prevent intrusions by the Chinese in disputed areas.

The Philippines expects to have a “clearer understanding” of its strategic alliance with the United States in at least four key aspects, which includes political and security cooperation, when US President Barack Obama visits the country for the first time next week.

The said agreement, during the visit, between the two Pacific countries will be “the centerpiece” of Obama’s trip to Asia, a report from the New York Times said early this week.

These two territories also enjoy strong people-to-people ties with about 2.27 million Filipinos living in the United States. Thousands of US tourists also visit the Philippines annually, and vice-versa.
