The United States men’s national squad begin their World Cup campaign starting off with their first match against Ghana. This game has been labeled a must-win for the Americans who belong to the Group G along with Ghana, Portugal and Germany. Football fans called the aforementioned group as “group of death,” in which drops three (3) or more strong teams in the same group.

Ghanaian professional footballer Jonathan Mensah, who plays defender for Evian Thonon Gaillard F.C. at Ligue 1 in France, stated that their squad geared up and definitely ready for a United States backlash after beating the Americans in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.

Ghana, the nation situated in African region, have succeeded 2-1 over the United States national football club in the previous tournament in Germany and South Africa, ditching the Americans of the elimination stages in the group stage in 2006 and 2010, respectively.

With the pressure joining to the group of death, Mensah is aware that their opponents to be keen on revenge when they open their Group G campaign and the team is hoping to be at the top of group. Additionally, he’s rooting for triumph for their first match against the Americans, if they want to start their campaign in an affirmative fashion. Though the group has guts and confidence driven by the winnings against USA in the previous two world cups, the team can’t help it to be nervous, but promises to be focused for their first game of the competition.

On the other side, United States national squad midfielder Michael Bradley is looking forward for the next match on against Portugal saying that they’re, “certainly made no secret of the fact that all our focus at this point is about Ghana, making sure that we do everything we can so that on June 16 we step on the field and are ready to leave it all out there knowing that a good result puts us in a really good spot.”

United States of America and Everton Football Club goalkeeper Tim Howard said “If we can get the win, then we can refocus and go for Portugal. There’s no sense in looking beyond the first game. It’s important, I think, that we can get three points in the bag.” United States (USA) World Cup 2014 campaign will be missed by long-time participant Landon Donovan.

Ghana and USA are drawn with Germany and Portugal in the Group G. It’s no secret for Ghana and United States that the powerful opponents Germany and Portugal are amongst the favorites to progress from the group of death.
