MANILA, Philippines – Wireless carrier titan Globe Telecom has set up a booth that offers a free calls for the residents of Southern Philippines’ Zamboanga City.
The Zamboanga City government said the free calls booth was placed near the Zamboanga Grandstand entrance “providing free call services for people there.”
The city has been placed on full alert as members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) under the faction of Nur Misuari occupied at least five villages, displacing hundreds of families. All classes have been suspended and flights to and from Zamboanga have been cancelled, the city government said.
At least four people have been confirmed killed in Monday’s violence and dozens trapped inside their homes in areas taken by the MNLF guerillas. The Nur Misuari-led MNLF members arrived by boat in the city early on Monday and had wanted to raise their flag above Zamboanga’s city hall, military officials said.
